South Africa’s ICT sector: a R243-billion industry

Using data from a 12-month period, the report examined the performance of and developments in SA’s ICT sector - made up of telecoms, broadcasting and postal services. It found that the ICT sector recorded R243.6 billion in revenue in 2021. The telecoms sector generated the lion’s share of this: R200 billion. Revenue generated from mobile data services amounted to R53.1 billion of this figure. Additionally, the total number of 4G/LTE devices grew from 32 million in 2020 to 47 million in 2021 - a significant increase of 47%.
